Dining :

Dining at the Royal Golf Hotel

Since 2010 our Head Chef, Saminda Mavilmada and his loyal team, have consistently produced exciting and seasonally changing dishes with the emphasis on fresh local ingredients. Here in the Highlands we are blessed with an abundance of quality produce especially Scottish beef, fish, shellfish and game which are to be found on our daily changing ‘specials menu’.

The Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch offers quality bistro style dining in the Conservatory Restaurant with its magnificent views across the golf course to the Dornoch Firth

A view similar to the one to the right can be enjoyed from the Lounge and Conservatory on a fine day.

Sunday lunches and afternoon teas are also available in the conservatory.

Only the finest local Scottish produce is used, with all menus complemented by an extensive wine list and a selection of over 35 malts.

The Restaurant

The main restaurant is available for private functions and is also used mainly for the service of breakfast. If you’re looking for somewhere private to celebrate your golf outing’s prizegiving or for a family party or festive celebration give our sales team a call to discuss menu options.

The Royal Golf Hotel Bar

The hotel bar was for years famous (or perhaps even infamous) for its post golf hospitality. Many a single malt whisky, fine wine or Scottish beer, has been sipped in this wonderful bar which has its own feature whisky wall and wonderful drawings of Royal Dornoch’s famous golf holes.

Now it has reopened we look forward to many more tales of golfing heroics from golfers across the globe as they stand at the Glenmorangie barrel and reflect on their days activities.

Golf :

On the north side of the Dornoch Firth, on the east coast that runs from the Moray Firth up into Sutherland, Dornoch enjoys the status of a well-to-do holiday resort.

It is blessed with a particularly sunny climate (in Scottish terms!) thanks to its sheltered position, and has miles of sandy beaches to match. The extensive sand dunes in the area are perfect for links golf, and the Royal Dornoch championship course being ranked 6th best in the world by Golf Digest and No 1 in Scotalnd.

In addition Castle Stuart Golf Links, Inverness, is one of Scotlands newest and widely acclaimed links courses having hosted the Scottish Open in 2011, 2012 & 2013 and again in July this year 2016, being ranked 56th best in the world.

The coast teams with wildlife, such as seals, and a sizeable population of both breeding and wintering birds. Dating from the 12th century, the town is steeped in history.

Dornoch Cathedral. The impressive cathedral was founded in 1224, and though the Mackay clan sacked it in 1570, it was restored by the Countess of Sutherland in 1835, and again in the 20th century.

The famous Scots philanthropist Andrew Carnegie paid for some of the stained-glass windows. Other buildings of note are the 16th century Bishops Palace and the Old Town Jail. The History links Museum chronicles the history of the town. The town is also reputedly where the last witch in Scotland was burnt, in 1722 – a fact commemorated by the Witch’s Stone.

The next few pages give more details of the range of attractions, castles, beaches in and around the Dornoch Firth and Sutherland.

We hope that our guide of things to do, places to see and golf courses to play is of some use to you in planning your visit to The Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch.
