Dornoch Castle Hotel has a total of 22 en suite bedrooms situated within the oldest part of the castle and the modern extension. There are several room types including Garden Standard, Deluxe, Superior, and our award-winning Old Courtroom.

Due to the layout of this historic castle, every room has its own special theme and ambience, each bringing out a piece of history.

The Old Courtroom
The Old Courtroom has been developed from old Magistrate’s bar. It is our award-winning room boasting of a hand-carved, king sized, Elizabethan style four poster bed.
Cathedral View
Our Cathedral View Deluxe Room has been developed from part of the original great hall of the Palace and offers a delightful layout maintaining a touch of history.
The Tower Room
The Tower Room Deluxe boasts a hand carved four poster bed, wood paneling, high ceilings, a large open fireplace with log burning stove. It is situated in the original Castle building
Castle Superior Room
The Castle Superior rooms have all been refurbished but definitely have retained their original atmosphere and comfort. Each of these rooms is individually decorated.
Garden Superior Room
The Garden Superior rooms are located on the 1st floor and are comfortably furnished, sunny, and have king-sized half-tester beds. It is attached to the oldest part of the Castle.
Standard Garden Rooms
The sunny Garden Standard rooms are located in the modern extension and overlooks a beautifully manicured walled garden. The rooms are available as doubles or twins.

Whether you want that special candle-lit dinner in the Garden Restaurant which overlooks the formal walled gardens; or a more informal meal in comfortable surroundings in front of the roaring log fire in the 11ft fireplace that was formerly the Bishop’s kitchen in the 1500’s.

The Castle’s original restaurant and dining room has been transformed into the Whisky Bar and reception that features 15th Century stonewalls, completed with oak panelling and Caithness slab flooring.

The chefs at the Dornoch Castle Hotel have been working exceptionally hard maintaining, for six years running an AA Rosette Status. Using locally source produce to highlight all that Scottish cuisine has to offer. Our food and beverage team have crafted a wine and whisky list especially to compliment the chef’s menu.

On sunny days, the garden is a sociable hive of activity with customers enjoying an open air dinning experience in our beautiful walled gardens, an ideal location for taking in Scotland’s long summer nights.

Meals are served daily from 6.00pm to 9.00pm daily.

Golf & Activities :

There is plenty for you to do in the North of Scotland and Dornoch is the perfect spot to try these new sports and activities.

There is clay pigeon shooting, squash, tennis, Geocaching and candle making workshops with Coast Candles. You can also sample various activities at the Dornoch Lochans including; fishing, golf, croquet and boules.

The beach is renowned for its golden sands and is an excellent location for bringing your kids to play; kite surfing; swimming and even the occasional dolphin sighting. Dornoch Beach has recently been awarded an award of excellence by the Keep Scotland Beautiful organisation.

The Dornoch Firth and surrounding areas must be a golfer’s heaven because some of the finest 18-hole courses in the country are all within a short driving distance from each other.

It is the third oldest golf course in the world after St Andrews and Leith, and is still one of the finest. It runs along the curve of the coast behind the sand hills, overlooking the great golden beaches around the bay. Ranked number 6 in the world, and only a 10 minute walk away.

 Not to forget other spectacular links course on our doorstep, the local Dornoch Struie offers golfers a good alternative. Other local courses include the delightful Brora, Golspie, Fortrose, Tain, Nairn Championship and Nairn Dunbar.
