Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg
With the purchase of Doonbeg in 2014, the vision of it's new owner, Mr. Donald J Trump, of a truly great links course, immediately began to take shape. The significant task of the redesign of Doonbeg rested with Dr. Martin Hawtree, a 3rd generation architect. Dr. Hawtree had already designed the spectacular course at Trump International Scotland, and with a portfolio that includes Lahinch, Portmarnock, St Andrew's and Muirfueld, we knew the finished result would be remarkable and it truly is.
Our superintendent Scott Marr and his team have undertaken an agronomy program that will rival the best in the World. Scott is committed to providing the best 'Links' playing experience on these shores. The nursery behind the 11th tee is currently being grown in with the various grasses needed to patch worn or tired areas and keep the course looking pristine. The overall yardage has increased from 6911 to 7026 from the back tees. With the constant Atlantic winds buffering the course this added length will test the World's greatest golfers.
The golf course is now one fo the Worlds greatest courses. The genius of Dr. Martin Hawtree must be seen to be believed. Some of the restoration work is dramatic but the majority is very subtle and fair. It is a true testament to the man.
Open in 2002, Trump International Golf Club Doonbeg’s young age belies an historic charm quite its own. This charm is outwardly present in the course’s stunning natural surroundings, from the wilderness of the Atlantic Ocean that dominates the golfer’s line of vision to the near-100 foot sand dunes that frame the links course.
The Wild Atlantic Ocean laps the 1.5 miles of beach that stretches alongside Greg Norman’s challenging and thought-provoking link course. On average, the typical golfer takes 4 hours 30 minutes to navigate through the near-100 foot dunes that frame its borders.
With views of the Atlantic accompanying you for 16 of its 18 holes, there’s plenty of time for strategizing and reflection in the most grand and open of environments.
