Mauna Kea Beach Resort – The Big Island

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s rich past provides the resort with an elegance and refined sense of tradition and place. In the present, it offers beautiful, exciting Hawaii experiences. The aloha is everlasting.

A beloved resort since it opened in 1965, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was founded by noted conservationist Laurance S. Rockefeller, who spotted the perfect white sand crescent of Kauna‘oa Bay and visualized an elegant, luxury resort that reflected the spirit of that incredible location. The resulting Mauna Kea Beach Hotel –HAWAII ISLAND’S FIRST RESORT – has, ever since, provided its guests with a perfect mix of exceptional golf, tennis, ocean and cultural activities as well as serene and luxurious relaxation on the Big Island.

Guest rooms and suites, all with either ocean or golf course views, are carefully maintained to honor Rockefeller’s tradition of understated tropical elegance while providing modern comforts and connectivity.

MANTA

In the mornings, the open-air bay view restaurant is home to a legendary breakfast buffet with made-to-order waffles and omelets, fresh tropical fruits and juices, healthy whole-grain cereals and tasty pastries. With the sunset, the ambiance changes as Mauna Kea Beach Hotel chefs prepare fresh culinary dinner delights in Manta’s exhibition kitchen and the Bar & Lounge area come to life. Be sure to check for the schedule of live entertainment throughout the year. Manta’s award-winning wine list enhances the dining experience.

COPPER BAR

There are many analogies one could make about all that transpired to create Copper Bar. Long an iconic gathering place at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, it was important during a 2015 renovation that designers incorporate elements of Copper Bar’s storied past while launching new traditions for the future. Notable design elements included restoration of the skylights connecting Copper Bar to light penetrating from the lobby level, reuse of the copper plate from the original bar to the new back bar and reuse of the marine rope as a new art-like wall feature. Solomon Eno’s triptych, “Kauna’oa,” was commissioned to continue the legacy of art work at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Copper Bar is a place to gather with friends and family to enjoy creative, casual cuisine based on abundance and sharing along with crafted cocktails, beers and wine. Of course, the centerpiece was and remains sweeping views of Kauna’oa Bay that have beckoned travelers for decades.

HAU TREE

Step right off the beach, out of the sun and into the open-air, casual Hau Tree restaurant for sandwiches, wraps, hamburgers, salads, ice cream, our famous “Ovaltine Froth,” or a Signature Fredrico cocktail. Hau Tree offers a “grab-n-go” breakfast, sit-down lunches and relaxed dinners. It’s complete with a round gazebo-style bar and barstools perfectly situated for enjoying cocktails while anticipating the sunset’s elusive green flash.

NUMBER 3 RESTAURANT

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s Number 3 restaurant, adjacent to the first tee, offers tasty fare such as grass-fed burgers, fish tacos and a classic Crab Louis in a casual and relaxed atmosphere near the first tee. Also available: Golfers, families, or anyone looking for a delicious lunch may also enjoy cold beer on tap, frosty fruit smoothies and signature Mauna Kea cocktails.

 Golf :

Mauna Kea Golf Course

The stunningly beautiful and award-winning Mauna Kea Golf Course, created in 1964 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. on a previously barren black lava field, remains an all-time favorite in beauty and design. The elevated, undulating greens and prevailing coastal winds demand accuracy. The challenging Big Island course offers stellar coastal views as it tumbles across seaside cliffs. Some holes play right alongside the ocean – or across it.

Spa :

The Mauna Kea Spa by Mandara offers a combination of Balinese and Hawaiian-inspired therapies. Choose from a variety of massage, body treatments, aromatherapy and skincare services featuring our signature Elemis product line. Our full service facility offers five luxurious treatment rooms including a couples suite with balneotherapy.
