William Francis Bell also designed Torrey Pines, La Jolla Country Club and Bermuda Dunes CC along with many other courses in Southern California and across the country. Legend Course formally Palm Springs Municipal Golf Course was designed in 1957. It was originally 9 holes, and then the back 9 was added shortly later in 1959.

Arnold Palmer Golf Management added 40 bunkers in 1996 to enhance the character and challenge of the traditional layout of just over 6,800 yards. Currently the Legend has 4 sets of tees for various handicaps and can play as short as 5,800 yards. The course meanders through several different neighborhoods most as old as the Legend Course itself. Many trees along the fairway are over 50 years old. 4 holes on the Legend Course play across or through the Palm Canyon Wash.

This course is a traditional golf course layout similar to most courses across the country. The greens on the Legend Course are “push up” greens, a common green matrix construction that is still used today. The greens are basically designed to be raised above the terrain and contain undulation that slopes drainage from back to front. Consequently this creates fast and tricky putting surfaces for the golfer. The Legend is a fun, fast, and challenging golf course for every golfer. Come out and see what locals have known for 50 years.
