Scotland – The Home of Golf
What could be better than standing on the first tee of a magnificent golf course in Scotland, the home of golf? If you’re considering a golf holiday in Aberdeen, the Sandman Aberdeen is the perfect choice.
With over 550 golf courses covering the length and breadth of Scotland, there are many historic links and parkland courses attracting golfers from all corners of the globe. And with over ten golf courses right on our doorstep, The Chester Hotel will meet all your golfing needs.
Trump International: 14 miles
The championship golf course is a classical Scottish links. The course has a Par of 72 and a maximum length of just over 7400 yards. All 18 holes thread their way engagingly through the dunes, rising to find views of the sea and coastline. Each hole has six separate tees catering for all classes of golfer. The bunkers are placed to challenge the stronger player and not unduly punish the weaker golfer. “The Ultimate Links Experience – Challenging & Breathtaking”
Royal Aberdeen (Balgownie): 5 miles
Balgownie is one of the truest links layouts in golf. It’s a course to test the better golfer, one who can accommodate the many variable conditions this arduous links can throw at you. Balgownie’s front nine holes rank amongst the very best in the world. The Balgownie course is a classic links layout – out through the dunes and back along a plateau.
Murcar Links: 7 miles
“Murcar Links is as fine a links course as you could wish to play” (Paul Lawrie, 1999 Open Champion). Not for the beginner or the faint hearted, Murcar Links is a par 71 natural Championship links, which represents a truly challenging test of golf. To play it requires every shot in the book and if the wind is up, a few more besides!
Cruden Bay: 26 miles
Cruden Bay is a traditional Scottish links golf course, creating unique challenges demanding the skills of power, placement and fine judgement upon the discerning golfer. Set against a backdrop of subtly contoured greens and magnificent panoramic views the course truly justifies its position as 61st best course in the world.
Banchory: 17 miles
Located in the heart of Royal Deeside, the picturesque par 69 – 18 hole course with strategically placed bunkers, mature trees and the “magnetic” River Dee offers a challenge to golfers of all standards.
Meldrum House: 19 miles
One of only a few courses in Scotland measuring more than 7,000 yards, Meldrum House Golf Course will be an unforgettable experience for every golfer. The course is challenging – a real pleasure for anyone who is passionate about the game. It’s also a refreshing alternative to Scotland’s classic links venues.
Newmachar (Hawkeshill): 9 miles
This parkland par 72 course measuring 6730 yards is set amongst mature silver birch and Scots pine trees. Water hazards, combined with strategic bunkering of fairways and greens, make this one of the toughest tests of golf in the area.
Duff House: 45 miles
Duff House Royal Golf Club is a beautifully manicured parkland course, a feature being the large two tiered “MacKenzie” greens. Its appearance defies its difficulty and its 6031 yards offer a severe but fair challenge to golfers of all abilities.
Ballater: 40 miles
Picture a corner of Scotland with a delightful warmth of welcome, together with breathtaking scenery and an interesting and challenging golf course and you’ve discovered Ballater. The course offers its toughest test to par on its opening six holes, which include two difficult par threes. However, with the beautiful scenery, dominated by Lochnagar to the west, and the fresh Highland air, few can fail to enjoy this lovely course.
Stonehaven: 12 miles
Stonehaven Golf Club lies on the Braes of Cowie. Though the course is short (par 66 and 5103 yards), it also provides stunning views of the North Sea, of Stonehaven Bay and the town itself, and of the ancient fortress of Dunnottar Castle, and sets a stiff challenge for all standards of golfer.
Braemar: 58 miles
Braemar is the highest 18 hole golf course in Scotland at around 1,200 feet above sea level. The course is relatively short, measuring 4,935 off the medal tees, but it will test golfers of any standard.
