James and Louise renovated The Milking Sheds, to regenerate a neglected building as well as establishing long-term roots in their family home.

They now want to share this setting with visitors to Dufftown – where guests can enjoy not only everything the town has to offer, but also providing an ideal base to explore Speyside or as a stop on the way to the start of the North Coast 500 route.

Keeping James & Louise busy day to day includes running the family guest house, their restaurant at Tannochbrae and introducing guests to the ‘Home of Whisky Ice Cream’ at their ice cream shop on Balvenie Street, not to mention taking their famous malt whisky ice cream the length and breadth of the country…enjoying a Highland Games or three in the process!

Together as husband and wife they work alongside each other to manage these interests, with James working as chef, Louise taking care of marketing, together raising daughter Poppy, the newest addition to their family, as well as looking after two rambunctious dogs Dave and Holly.

Ben, eldest son to James is now following his own career after helping to establish the family ice cream shop and whisky ice cream adventure.

As residence of Speyside, we hold the region close to our heart, and more than half of Scotland’s operational malt whisky distilleries can be found here, with 6 in the small town of Dufftown alone! Speyside malts are diverse in style and vary from the light, soft, floral Knockando and Cardhu to weighty, more complex and heavily sherried malts such as Mortlach and The Macallan. Here you’ll find many of the most well known names in Scotch whisky, such as Glenfiddich, Glenfarclas, Glen Grant, The Glenlivet and The Macallan – to name but a few!
