History

Now one of Aberdeen’s best-known hostelries, the Atholl, was originally built as a private residence in 1892. It cost the original owner Mr William ‘Raggie’ Morrison a sum of £1,225 to build at that time.

The property then known as “Hazelhurst” was sold to a Mr. James Davidson in 1900. When an extention was added to the building in 1910, evidence leads us to believe this was for a private chapel, 54 King’s Gate became the majestic building it is today.

In 1946, the building became a private, unlicenced hotel and in 1963, a full license was granted in the name of the Atholl Hotel.

Accommodations :

The Atholl has 34 recently refurbished bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, sky sports channels and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Our rooms are traditionally decorated with all the facilities one would expect from a Visit Scotland Four Star Hotel, each with satellite television, direct dial telephone, trouser press, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities.

The Hotel has already undertaken major building work converting 2 rooms to have additional disabled facilities for our less able guests.  We have also installed a passenger lift from the hotel reception area to the first floor bedrooms and function suites.

Dining :

Here at the Atholl our guests can choose to dine in either the Restaurant, Bar or Lounge.

We pride ourselves in using fresh local produce where possible for our traditional and varied menus, which change seasonally.

Our extensive menu offers something to suit everyone, including a selection of vegetarian dishes, lighter and healthier options and daily specials. Our chefs are always happy to assist with any dietary requirements and preferences, please just ask a member of the team. For the younger diner we offer a children’s menu containing smaller portions of some of the classic dishes on our menu as well as some children’s favourites.

Our famous “Atholl Favourites” use simple local ingredients to produce delicious traditional fair.

The homely and comfortable front lounge is a friendly and popular meeting place where you can enjoy a more relaxed dining experience, or simply a coffee and a cake while you take in the view of the city.

We recommend advance booking for the restaurant for tables up to 12 people or come along to our bar and lounge which operates on a first come first serve basis.
