Golf was first played at Nefyn in 1907 after a meeting, convened perhaps not surprisingly for a golf club, at the Ty Coch pub on Porthdinllaen beach, set below what is now the spectacular 15th fairway which the expert golfer will have, of course, found with a 200 yard carry over the local Life Boat Station!

Following this meeting a nine hole course was subsequently laid out and golf at Nefyn was born. Nefyn Golf Club used to be described as one of Wales’ ‘best kept secrets’, but today the secret is out and visitors from all over the world make the trip to this spectacular piece of coastline known as the Llyn Peninsula to experience not only the challenge of the golf course, but also the breathtaking scenery and tranquility of its secluded location.

For the last five years, Nefyn has been voted among the top 100 golf courses in the UK by Golf World. J.H.Taylor and James Braid both had a hand in the course’s development in the 20s and 30s, with the former describing it as, ‘situated on one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen.’ Nefyn is a golf course that can be enjoyed by golfers of every standard because in the case of so many of its holes, it invites the golfer to create the challenge – in a phrase, ‘you can do it the easy way or the hard way, the risk or reward is of one’s own making!’
