Situated on Northern Ireland’s magnificent Causeway coast, Portstewart presents a difficult but fair game. With its origins dating back to the late nineteenth century, the course has gone through something of an updating process in recent decades, which has freshened the options available to patrons. With the addition of two new courses, Portstewart now offers 54 holes of very different golf. Mixing in the old style with the new, it is home to a golfing hybrid that serves it quite well.

The Strand course is indisputably the jewel in Portstewart’s crown for both the quality of the game and scenery. It is set in classic links country amid towering sand dunes with views of the Donegal hills, the Atlantic and the River Bann. The opening hole, with its elevated tee and dogleg right to the green with sandy strip on the right, was always a particularly memorable opening hole.
