Golf

Blackwolf Run® and Whistling Straits challenge the pros while providing the amateur golfer a fair and unforgettable test. All four courses between the two venues were chosen for 2015/2016 America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest. Created by legendary golf course designer Pete Dye, they have hosted three PGA Championships, the Andersen Consulting World Golf Championships, a U.S. Senior Open and two U.S. Women’s Opens. In 2020, The Straits at Whistling Straits will host the Ryder Cup Matches.

Blackwolf Run®

Melded into a river basin formed by the flows of glacial runoff, Blackwolf Run opened for play in June of 1988 and was named that year’s Best New Public Course in the country by Golf Digest. Both the River and Meadow Valleys are regularly ranked in America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses by Golf Digest and the Top 100 You Can Play by GOLF Magazine. Regarded as one of Pete Dye’s crowning achievements, Blackwolf Run has hosted a number of professional championships: the Andersen Consulting World Golf Championships in 1995, 1996 and 1997 as well as the U.S. Women’s Open in 1998 and 2012.

Here is look at the championship courses offered at The American Club

The River

The River at Blackwolf Run meanders throughout the Sheboygan River, which comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes. Additional water hazards on the course help make the River an extremely penal course. The undulating greens and elevation changes are sure to frustrate players while the natural beauty is sure to please. The course has four sets of tees to accommodate players of any ability. The River at Blackwolf Run was ranked #16 in Golf Digest ‘s ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses for 2015-2016.

The Meadow Valleys

The Meadow Valleys at Blackwolf Run is appropriately named seeing that the front nine wanders through an open meadow and the back nine is carved out of a natural valley. The course has large rolling fairways and difficult greens. The back nine hosts several substantial elevation changes including the dramatic 227-yard par 3 15th. The course has four sets of tees to accommodate players of any ability. The Meadow Valleys at Blackwolf Run was ranked #72 in Golf Digest ’s ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses for 2015-2016.

Whistling Straits

Whistling Straits, designed by the legendary Pete Dye, is a throwback to the raw freshness of Ireland. Sculpted into the Wisconsin coastline, The Straits is the proud host of the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships, as well as the 2020 Ryder Cup matches. If you ask Pete Dye, he’ll tell you that building Whistling Straits was a “once-in-a-lifetime thing” – an impressive claim for one considered the foremost golf course designer of our time. “This is as dramatic a site as anything I’ve ever encountered,” Dye said. “I’ve never seen anything that resembles this.” Whistling Straits offers two courses of dynamic contrast and world-class prestige. Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines The Straits, sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Borrowing influences from Irish links courses, The Straits has fescue fairways and massive sand dune bunkers. Just inland, interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland and dunes aspect of The Irish course is a deceiving tranquil landscape.

The Straits

The Irish

Just inland from the great lake and interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland-and-dunes aspect of The Irish at Whistling Straits is a deceivingly tranquil landscape. Both traditional and memorable, The Irish is full of unique challenges. The Irish at Whistling Straits was ranked #47 in Golf Digest’s ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses for 2015-2016.

The Champions Locker Room

The Champions Locker Room opened in June of 2004 as a locker room/hospitality arena for the contestants of the major golf championship.
